Will It Always Be There? By Emma M.

As I go back into my past,

I wonder why it did not last.

I pass the park where I learned to swing,

I hope that it will always be there.

I pass the field where I flew my kite

Feeling once more that old dog bite.

See the balloon fly in the air,

I hope that it will always be there.

At the house with the lovely dove,

In my heart I still feel the love.

Where I had learned to sing and play,

I hope that it will always be there.

Emma, I think that the speaker in this poem is a slightly naive person who is young, but no younger than a teenager. The words in this poem are about getting older, and hoping not to lose old memories. The mood of this poem is longing, she longs for her memories to stay alive. I believe that the theme of this poem is even though we may grow older, we never want our memories to leave us. I can relate to this poem, because I always remember places that I went to in my child, and I hope that they went untouched.
